Abstract
True exfoliation syndrome is a rare condition, characterized by anterior capsular delamination. It is often undetected unless an examination is performed after good mydriasis. Though historically reported in glass blowers with prolonged heat exposure, other etiologies have also been proposed in the pathogenesis. Often underreported and under-detected, this can lead to capsulorrhexis complications during cataract surgery, if adequate attention is not paid to it. We report a series of true exfoliation syndrome in three South Indian patients and review the relevant literature.
