Secondary add-on IOL implantation for pseudophakic residual ametropia in high myopes – A case series

Abstract

High Myopic cataract patients receiving low-powered or negative powered intraocular lenses (IOLs) after phacoemulsification, often have residual hyperopic refractive errors and remain dissatisfied. Implantation of add-on IOL is one of the easy options to address this issue. We present three such cases of refractive surprise following cataract surgery in highly myopic eyes, who, after implantation of monofocal hydrophilic acrylic sulcus fixated add-on IOL in the presence of the primary IOL in the bag, had 6/9 unaided vision without any perioperative complications. Secondary sulcus fixated add-on IOL implantation is a safe and effective procedure to correct refractive surprise following phacoemulsification cataract surgery in high myopes.
