Abstract

Abstract The arthroplasty surgeons are challenged to manage the painful total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The causation may include septic or aseptic etiological reasons. The unexplained pain poses dilemmas in diagnosing and management. The use of arthroscopy in a TKA with unexplained pain for diagnostic and therapeutic intervention has its use with its limitations. The challenges with surgical technique and pitfalls with the use of arthroscopy in a TKA have been reviewed. The recommendations for an effective use of arthroscopy have been discussed. The minimally invasive procedure is largely safe and effective to identify and manage the soft-tissue impingement, which is not evident on clinical, radiological, or biochemistry evaluation. However, the pitfalls with the treatment, once identified, may give better clinical and functional outcomes.
