Abstract
Abstract:
The incidence of burns is higher in children than in adults. There is a wide spectrum in patterns of injury and severity. Most pediatric burns are small and can be managed in nonspecialist centers. Scald injuries occur due to the destruction of tissues by hot liquids, and tend to be the most common type of thermal injury under the age of five years, accounting for over 65% of the cases. Ayurveda describes burn injury as Agnidagdha vrana. This case report shows a four-year-old child, who sustained an accidental second-degree burn. The family members of the child extended good cooperation, during the treatment period. Irrigation of the wound with Triphala kwatha followed by topical application of Shatadhauta ghrita for first five days. Subsequently, irrigation of the wound with Triphala kwatha followed by topical application of Mahatiktaka ghrita was used until the 18th day. The wound healing was satisfactory. No secondary complications developed.
