Abstract

Mucormycosis is frequently associated with diabetes, malignancy, transplantation, and immunosuppressive therapy. We report a case of gastrointestinal (GI) mucormycosis presenting as cecal perforation in an apparently immune-competent young female who received high-dose corticosteroids. GI mucormycosis frequently occurs in a host without classical risk factors and has a poor prognosis despite optimal management.
