Management of Residual Gingival Defect in Esthetic Zone after Excision Fibroepithelial Hyperplasia Using Platelet-Rich Fibrin Membrane: A 12-Month Follow-Up Case Report

Abstract

Abstract The nonneoplastic entity that occurs on gingiva which is of fibrous connective tissue origin is fibrous epithelial hyperplasia which is also considered to be histologic variant of fibroma that causes esthetic and functional problems. It is thought to occur in response to chronic recurring tissue injury which stimulates an exuberant or extreme tissue response. Surgical excision is treatment of choice with recurrence being rarely reported. The soft-tissue defect after excision can be treated using various periodontal plastic surgical treatment modalities available. This case report discusses excision of fibroepithelial hyperplasia, followed by treatment of soft-tissue defect using platelet-rich fibrin membrane with 12-month follow-up.
