Metastatic Hidradenocarcinoma of Inguinal Region: A Cytological Diagnosis

Abstract

Abstract Hidradenocarcinoma is an unusual malignant tumor of the sweat gland with a high local recurrence and lymph node metastasis. They are primarily located in the head and neck, and trunk. Here, we present a case of hidradenocarcinoma recurrence with metastasis to the right inguinal region, which is a rare occurrence. In cytology, dual population of cells, consisting of eosinophilic and clear cells, can be observed, which are arranged in clusters, tubules, and papillae showing pleomorphism, along with extracellular hyaline material and necrosis. Although excision biopsy is needed for diagnosis, fine needle aspiration can be a simple and minimally invasive method in preoperative diagnosis.
