An Interesting Case of Bleeding per Rectum in a Patient with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Abstract

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by uncontrolled growth of myeloid cells. The challenge in diagnosis of rectal bleeding in a patient with CML lies in differentiating whether the bleed is due to underlying lymphoma related or any unrelated conditions. Here we report a case of 73-year-old woman with CML who presented with recurrent rectal bleeding and was diagnosed with a infectious disease as a cause of bleeding per rectum. We like to emphasise the need for broader differential diagnosis in a case of bleeding per rectum with underlying CML on immunosuppresives.
