We wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge that, unbeknownst to us, the observations that Fe2(CO)9 is considerably more reactive in THF than in other solvents, and that such “solutions” are complex and contain various spocies, including possibly Fe(CO)5, were reported prior to our own earliest publication2a on the subject by Natile and Bor.4 The observations were given at the end of a paper on a spectroscopic matter and were not subsequently emphasized or exploited, and for these reasons they entirely excaped our notice.
