Abstract
In a “historic” ruling, India's Supreme Court has cleared its Government to carry on using the fingerprints and iris scans of more than 1bn citizens in Aadhaar, the world's biggest biometric ID programme. But the court ruled that private companies must stop using Aadhaar IDs when offering customers services like bank accounts or mobile phone contracts.
