1. In this paper nationalism is observed as a social and historical phenomenon. It is seen as the conception and implementation of a policy whose main goal is furtherance of the interests of one's own nation, which are regarded as absolute. All other interests must be subjected to them, and the interests of competing nations must be suppressed. No nation or period in modern history has been immune to nationalism.
