Abstract
A new analysis published by the Forschungszentrum Jülich Research Centre and the H2 Mobility joint venture in Germany has compared vehicle battery charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure costs, and found that the battery charging network will be more cost-intensive than hydrogen in the long term. While both technologies are vital for successful decarbonisation of the transport sector, a hydrogen refueling infrastructure will work out cheaper for 1 million vehicles or more, although additional investment will be needed for 100% ‘green’ hydrogen.
