4. The electrolytic cell containing the dye and the electrolyte was connected to a vacuum line and purified acetonitrile was distilled directly into the cell. Electrolysis was performed with the solution under a pressure of 10−3 Torr. A Ag wire was used as reference electrode and Pt as counter electrode. The observed potentials were converted to the aqueous SCE scale by noting the standard potential for reduction of a reference compound (benzoquinone).
