Until the end of the 19th century the disease Pellagra (from Italian ‘pelle agra’ for rough skin) was widespread. Since 1918 it was recognized that the disease resulted from insufficient supply of riboflavine and nicotinic acid. From 1938 on nicotinic acid and amide was added to cereal products in the USA, which drastically reduced the number of deaths from Pellagra.
