Abstract
Heavy dressings of lime increased the yield of subterranean clover grown on an acid sand. This increase in yield was mainly due to an increased uptake of phosphorus by the plant. Phosphorus was shown to be leached from the surface of this soil. Lime reduced the leaching of phosphorus. It is suggested that the effect of lime in increasing phosphorus uptake by subterranean clover was due in part to the prevention of the leaching of phosphorus.
