Abstract
A new pigment, dianellinone, has been
isolated from the roots of Dianella revoluta and Stypandra grandis in yields of
0.09 % and 0 025 % respectively. S. grandis also contains a second pigment,
stypandrone, which has been identified as 6-acetyl-5-hydroxy-7-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone.
Chemical and spectroscopic evidence indicates that dianellinone is the
corresponding 3,3'-dinaphthoquinone.
