Abstract
Chemical investigation of
the steam-volatile oil of the shrub Rubus rosifolius yielded pregeijerene
(2), β-caryophyllene (3), humulene (4),
dihydroagarofuran (5), an unidentified sesquiterpene ether, hedycaryol (6) and
the novel epieudesmol rosifoliol for which structure (1) is proposed. The bio-
genetic significance of these constituents and the carbon-13 magnetic resonance
spectra of rosifoliol and related compounds are discussed.
