Abstract
A year's survey of the fauna and flora present in a freshwater pond provides
the first work of its kind recorded in New Zealand.
Attention was given to the effect of the recorded chemical and physical factors
on the fluctuations in number of the zooplankton. A comparison of the local phytoplankton
and zooplankton with those from similar studies in North America, Europe,
and Asia shows the cosmopolitan nature of the inhabitants of freshwater.
