Abstract
The first total synthesis
of the sesquiterpene hydrocarbon (+)-α-amorphene
(zizanene) (1) has been achieved. A unique feature of
the synthetic scheme is the introduction of all three chiral
centres in
one step by an oxy-Cope rearrangement.
