Abstract
Five cruises covering Bass Strait were undertaken between August 1979 and October 1980. The data for density, derived from temperature and salinity, are examined in relation to the potential for a cascade into the Tasman Sea. The evidence from these cruises, coupled with previously published work, suggests that the cascade is more likely to occur during winter than during summer and autumn.
