Abstract
Females of Lucilia cuprine (Wied.) avoid laying on areas of fleece treated with a 'Diazinon' formulation. This effect, which continues for several weeks after the application of the insecticide to the sheep, is due to the solvent ('Stanvac PY') used in the formulation. Power kerosene, when used as a solvent, has less effect. Evidence is given that the solvents act as oviposition deterrents, but show no significant repellency. 'Diazinon' toxicosis plays no part in the observed effects.
