Abstract
The infrared and Raman
spectra of ammonium hexanitratocerate(IV), anhydrous mercury(II) nitrate, and
anhydrous cobalt(II) nitrate are reported. The spectrum of (NH4)2[Ce(NO3)6]
is analysed on the basis of the recent detailed structural determination. A similar
analysis is then made for Co(NO3)2 and Hg(NO3)2
the structures of which are not known. The usefulness of vibrational spectra to
establish the coordination of the nitrato ligand is examined.
