Abstract
1-Hydroxy-3-methyl-6,8-dimethoxynaphthalene
(VII) has been synthesized and shown to be identical with a phenol obtained
from the degradation of eleutherinol dimethyl ether. This synthesis establishes
the formula VI for eleutherinol, in agreement with prediction on biogenetic
grounds.
