Abstract
1. Rattus lutreolus was studied for 28 months in Victoria, Australia, by marking and recapturing. The population fell gradually, owing possibly to decrease of food supply with low rainfall. There was more food in a wet area than in dry areas. Differences in demography and social organization of R. lutreolus and R. fuscipes seemed to be due to differences in their food and feeding habits.
