Abstract
The introduction and distribution of the carp, C. carpio, in Australia are examined. Historical
reports, standard taxonomic techniques, and rote in electrophoresis indicate that at least three
distinct populations of carp exist in Australia and that one population has hybridized with the
goldfish Carassius auratus.
