Abstract
Although Lymnaea tomentosa can reproduce by internal self-fertilization, cross-fertilization by copulation is usual when food and aeration of the water is adequate. Individual snails can act as either males or as females. Sexual activity is particularly pronounced when the snails are introduced into new habitats.
Egg production commences earlier if snails are kept in pairs rather than in isolation.
