Abstract
The interaction of an external rotating magnetic field (from 0 to 4.5 mT) and a 9 A dc arc in air as a spectrochemical source was investigated. The change in spectral line intensities of Tl, Sn, Pb, Ge, Mg, Sb, Cd, Zn, and Hg, which were present as trace elements in arc burning in external rotating magnetic field, was observed. Two types of lower electrodes were used in these experiments since it was found that the form of electrode also influences the interaction on the rotating magnetic field and the arc. In one series of measurements the lower electrode was used as an anode and in the second as a cathode. Only in the case of a cathode excitation in the external rotating magnetic field were noticeable changes in spectral line intensities observed.
