Abstract
Noise-amplitude spectra were measured for inductively coupled plasma (ICP) atomic emission spectrometry. These spectra indicate that a significant reduction of noise in the emission signal can be obtained by positioning a chimney over the ICP discharge. In this fashion, noise was reduced in the 200–500 Hz region of the frequency spectrum. The chimney had little effect on flicker (1/ f) noise.
