Abstract
Initial analytical results are reported for the direct elemental analysis of ceramics using a theta-pinch discharge. Sampling of refractory substances, including detection of minor and trace impurities, is demonstrated. Effects of sample aging and specimen shape are shown. Changes in emission time behavior are attributed to the effects of particle size and apparent nonrepresentative sampling, and to line reversal.
