Abstract

The degradation of mountainous beech forests in various habitat conditions in the territory of southwest Serbia is presented in this paper. Various forms of degradation on limestone and acid siliceous rocks are especially highlighted. Considering the different conditions relating to the parent rock and soil characteristics, the phases of degradation differ significantly. The research area is the wider area of Peštersko-sjenički plateau with the slopes of the surrounding mountains, so it can be said that it represents southwest Serbia.
