On 13 November 2001 it was announced that Balfour Beatty was withdrawing from the controversial Ilisu dam project on the river Tigris which has been a major source of friction between Turkey and her neighbours. It is suggested that this withdrawal will effectively end the chance of the dam being built in the foreseeable future.
