DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILLS IN AN ONLINE CLASSROOM

Abstract

The article focuses on planning and delivering effective listening skills lessons in an online environment. In this article, the issue of the similarities and differences between face-to-face listening lessons and online listening lessons is discussed. The outline for an online listening lesson with a detailed explanation of its elements is provided. The structure of the listening class is viewed through the scope of its purpose and targeted listening skills. The correlation between the activity, learning objective, and sought listening strategy is presented. Practical ideas and suggestions for tools and activities to help learners develop listening sub-skills and improve students’ perceptive skills are presented. The author also offers online resources for developing listening skills and provides detailed description of their features, so the teachers may choose ones, which will best benefit their learners. Implementation of virtual tools helps develop students’ listening skills and requires knowledge and practice. Any tool or activity offered in the article allows both teachers and students to improve their listening class cooperatively and interactively.
