Abstract
Abstract
In wellbore drilling operations, there are several various operations such as drilling operations, logging, coring, stimulation, completions and well testing. They are expensive operations and consume excessive time for executions. Rate of penetration (ROP), logging tools, formation pressures and other operations required continuous monitoring, evaluation and advisory drilling system for optimized execution in safe and competent manners. In this paper a newly developed advanced drilling advisory system was developed and applied in field drilling operations to drill wells in optimum time and cost in safe and environmental manners.
The are several drilling systems, however, not all of them are feasible in drilling operations and have lack of practicality and technicality. The advanced drilling system was developed to ensure continuous monitoring, evaluation and advisory while drilling and rig operations. The system includes ROP Optimization, hole cleaning advisory system which includes real times drilling fluid and equivalent circulating densities, drilling fluid rheology & capacity efficiencies, surge, swab, bottom hole pressures, rig & drill-bit hydraulics, physical rock properties, and carbon Dioxide (CO2) release measurement and controlling. The system utilized real time drilling sensors, surface parameters and fields inputs to generate real time profiles by using advanced real time algorithms and models.
The results showed accurate matching with literature review domain for physical rock properties, while drilling rig and bit pressures and hydraulics were validated and tested with well drilling and rig optimizations. The improvement was recognized by 50% ROP enhancement, CO2 reduction by 38% and Rig performance optimization by 30%.
The advanced drilling system can add values such as reduced CO2 emission, that is Part of 2030 vision to green initiative of kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Increased drilling efficiency, Optimized Rig performance, avoid drilling problems, and real-time CO2 reading for tracking.
