Abstract

Abstract Pre-commissioning of conventional subsea production and injection system is well established and has been delivered reliably by offshore contractors. However, subsea CCS presents significant new challenges, related to CO2 becoming highly corrosive in presence of free water. Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) material could be considered but would result in prohibitively expensive development. Instead, Carbon Steel (CS) are generally considered for CCS system, requiring a stringent control of injected content during all project development phases. This paper will present the main risks encountered while pre-commissioning subsea CCS system, highlight contractor experience on recent CCS developments and present how conventional O&G contractors’ knowledge can be re-used for this novel industry.
