Abstract

The article presents the results of an empirical study of the relationship between subjective quality of life and a tendency to compare oneself with other people and self-comparison. Significant relationships were found between the general orientation on comparing oneself with different categories of social referents, the orientation on self-comparison, on comparing oneself with other people in terms of abilities and global life situation, on the one hand, and the subjective quality of life, on the other side. The comparison orientation and, above all, self-comparison as well as the orientation on comparing oneself with other people in terms of abilities, have a negative impact on the subjective quality of life.
