Abstract
This work is devoted to the study of the lateral heating effect on a fluid in an inter-cone cavity. This device consists of two coaxial cones having the same apex angle ϕ = 12° giving a constant annular gap so that δ = d/R1max = 0.12 where d = R2max - R1max and containing a Newtonian fluid of constant physical properties as density ρ and kinematic viscosity ν. Both cones are at rest. The study is carried out by CFD program based on the finite volume method. The flow is controlled by the variation of the Grashof number in the range 1000 –5000. The results obtained show the existence of a change in behaviour within the flow as well as the appearance of striations as a function of the variation in the Grashof number. The various obtained results are analysed and compared systematically to the previous results established in other cavities.
