Abstract

This series of articles aims to remedy the lack of information about how to index the ancient Mesoamerican language known as Classic Mayan. In the first article, the language was explained in context, with an overview of hieroglyphic scripts, an exploration of the development and use of Classic Mayan, and an examination of its orthography, including the Maya numbering system and calendrics. This second article considers Classic Mayan naming conventions, marriage and kinship patterns, and examples of Late Classic period inscriptions. Reference material for indexers working on Maya-related manuscripts is also provided.
