Abstract

Abstract: Peritendinous adhesions is one of the most common complications following tendon injuries, resulting in limited joint motion and function. Interventions to optimize tendon gliding have been proposed—particularly the use of biological adjuncts such as hyaluronic acid. Several clinical and biomechanical studies have demonstrated improved tendon gliding and decreased excursion resistance with the use of a hyaluronic adjunct. We present a surgical technique using a hyaluronic acid/alginate sheet following acute repair of an Achilles tendon rupture to aid in tendon healing and prevent peritendinous adhesions. Level of Evidence: Diagnostic level IV.
