Association of silicone breast implants with immunologic abnormalities: a prospective study 11The Brigham and Women’s Hospital has received grants from Dow Corning to study silicone breast implants in an unrelated and separate study, the breast-implant substudy of the Women’s Health Cohort Study conducted by the Division of Preventive Medicine. From these grants Dr. Elizabeth Karlson received partial salary and fringe benefit support between February 1, 1994, and the present, and Dr. Sanchez-Guerrero received tuition support at the Harvard School of Public Health in September 1992. Dr. Liang was a consultant for four legal firms representing Dow Corning and McGhan between June 16, 1993, and August 26, 1994. Dr. Peter Schur was a consultant for nine legal firms representing Bristol Myers, Baxter, General Electric, and McGhan between November 1993 and December 1994. The other authors have not received compensation from companies that manufacture breast implants or from lawyers involved in breast implant litigation.
