High neuraxial block (HNB) is rare but is the most common serious complication in obstetric anesthesiology. It can occur after the failure of labor epidural anesthesia to convert to cesarean delivery (CD) anesthesia and can lead to respiratory distress and cardiac arrest. The aim of this study was to learn more about the incidence and clinical features of HNB in the Netherlands, where there is a low rate of neuraxial analgesia for labor and a low rate of CD.
