5. One-Carbon Metabolism**Abbreviations: The recommendations of the IUPAC-IUB Commission are followed in designation of pteroylglutamic acid and its derivatives, e.g., 10-HCOH4PteGlu, N10-formyltetrahydropteroylmonoglutamate, 5,10-CH2 H4 PteGlu, N5, N10-methylenetetrahydropteroylmonoglutamate, and 5-CH3H4PteGlu, N5-methyltetrahydropteroylmonoglutamate [Biochem. J. 102, 19–20 (1967)]. The term “folate” is used to denote metabolically active pteroylglutamates. Other abbreviations are AdoMet—S-adenosylmethionine, SAHC—S-adenosylhomocysteine γ-GCP—γ-glutamylcarboxypepidase, E.C. 3.4.12.10.;Metabolism and Respiration;1980
