Abstract

Summary: The paper delineates a general view of neuropsychological assessment in two major clinical disorders, which involve diffuse and focal brain damage, respectively. The neuropsychological examination in some particular cases is briefly summarized in the second part of the paper, which concerns the organic involvement in subjective memory difficulties, the extent of organic disorder in mild traumatic brain injury, and the important difficulties involved in understanding organic involvement in psychiatric patients. The role of clinicians is commented on in the different cases addressed in the paper.
