Abstract

Abstract To address the unequal-area dynamic facility layout problem (UA-DFLP), an optimization method of dynamic facility layout under fixed-point movement strategy was proposed in this paper. Firstly, mathematical models of dynamic facility layout in several production planning period were constructed. Secondly, according to the logistics relationship between facilities, the fixed-point movement strategy was proposed to solve the problem of non-interference constraint processing in the unequal area dynamic facility layout. Then, a genetic simulated annealing algorithm (GSA) for static facility layout and a genetic algorithm (GA) for dynamic facility layout were designed to solve the UA-DFLP by two steps. The first step, the GSA was applied to solve the optimal layout in each phase with the objective of minimizing material handling cost (MHC), and the isomorphic layout corresponding to the optimal layout in each phase was evolved by mirroring and rotation operation; The second step, according to the optimal layout and feasible isomorphic layout of each phase, GA was applied to solve the dynamic layout scheme aiming at minimizing the sum of MHC and facility replacement cost. Finally, the case study shows that the proposed layout method was an effective method to solve the UA-DFLP by three groups of examples.
