Abstract

Abstract One of the seismic load resisting systems in steel structure building is the Special Truss Moment Frame (STMF). One of the advantages of STMF that is highlighted is that the STMF structure is suitable for use in structures with long spans portal. As for the governing code, it is stipulated that the maximum span limit that may be used in STMF structure is 20 m. This limitation is regulated because STMF structure with > 20 m bay shows poor performance. This issue will be tried to be resolved by attaching an Intermediate Vertical Member (IVM), therefore STMF structure can be utilized for > 20 m bay. The structure was evaluated using the Nonlinear Static Pushover methods. The results of the analysis are used to evaluate the effect of attaching IVM components to the STMF structure by it’s entire performance. The analysis results show that the attachment of IVM to the STMF structure results in improved performance such as strength, ductility and the acceptance criteria of the structure globally.
