Abstract
Abstract
The present experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications to study morphological variability, genetic variability, heritability, and genetic advance for different traits of twenty genotypes. The results indicated that the genotypes were diversified for all the quantitative and qualitative traits except a few qualitative traits. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) showed higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) which indicates the meager effect of environment on the phenotypic expression of traits. The high heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean were recorded for the traits viz., plant height, trunk girth, crown diameter, tree volume, rachis and petiole length, duration of panicle imitation, number of days from panicle initiation to flowering, length and width of inflorescence, number of fruits per bunch, fruit, aril and seed weight, aril thickness, titratable acidity and TSS acid ratio. Therefore, these traits can be used as selection indices for indirect selection for the crop improvement programmes. On the basis of mean performance found best performing genotypes LGC-6 for yield attributing and fruit quality traits.
