Abstract

Abstract Present study deals with the inclusion of effect of seepage with the tractive force approach for a sediment particle resting on the porous bank. A formula was derived based upon the tractive force approach to estimate the critical shear stress acting on the sediment particle under the seepage condition. Study showed that hydraulic gradient affects the critical shear stress and later was observed to increase with increase in the hydraulic gradient. Inclusion seepage also affected the design of channels as cross sectional parameters were observed to be affected by the seepage.
