Lectin Hemagglutination Assay of Seaweeds

Abstract

Abstract Lectins and Hemagglutinins are proteins/ glycoproteins, which have at least one non-catalytic domain that exhibits reversible binding to specific monosaccharides or oligosaccharides. Seaweed have lectins, which are proteins or glycoproteins of non-immune origin containing at least one non-catalytic domain that binds reversibly to specific mono or oligosaccharides. It may have been considered that binding specificity of lectins to some carbohydrates provokes to produce many unique biological activities, including cell agglutination, mitogenic activity, antibacterial activity and antitumor activity.
