Abstract
Abstract
Diabetes is the most important factor for chronic renal failure. Studies have shown that patients with diabetes could have non diabetic kidney disease as coexisting pathologies in up to 1/3 of patients with diabetic nephropathy. The status of Sri Lanka is not known and this pilot study was done to find the prevalence of non-diabetic kidney disease. This is a retrospective study done by analyzing biopsy reports and patient data. The commonest non diabetic kidney disease was hypertensive nephrosclerosis, followed up by membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. 26.9% had non-diabetic kidney disease and 1/3 of them have a potentially curable condition with immunosuppression.
