Abstract
Abstract
We investigate the influence of electric field in epoxy resin with fillers on electrical tree growth from a void. Not only observation of electrical trees but also measurements of temporal variations in partial discharge (PD) occurrence frequency and PD magnitude were carried out. It was found that the occurrence of PD with larger magnitude is less before breakdown and that there is a decreasing trend of the time required for breakdown with the increase of electric field in a void. Additionally, when electric field of the tip of a pit is almost the same as the withstand electric field of the epoxy resin, dielectric breakdown gradually occurs in a short time. However, the electrical tree growth is disturbed by fillers in epoxy resin, and the required time for breakdown of epoxy resin with fillers is much longer than that without fillers.
