Abstract

Abstract The greater involvement of women in the SME sector would improve the economy of the country through a higher participation of the mostly excluded group. The low involvement of women in the SME sector in Zimbabwe is a major cause of concern since they are being marginally involved in the business activities by the current economic environment. This study established that the women are not supported by the government, they lack resources and are incapacitated yet the SMEs are currently the main source of employment for the Zimbabweans. The qualitative research method was used in the study which employed interviews as the main data collection method. The findings of the study will assist the government to promote the participation of women in the SME sector and this will improve the economy of the country. The researcher proposed the strategy that the Zimbabwean government could adopt in order to improve the participation of women in the economic development of the country.
